- Introduction
In this invention, a new technique, affinity membrane, was adopted
for the removal of endotoxin from aqueous solution as well as
protein solution with low concentration. This technique which
combined the high selectivity of affinity and the large scale
of membrane processing proved to be a convenient and efficient
tool for the purification of important products of biological
engineering, because that affinity adsorption takes place in a
mild condition similar to the environment within living beings
and has a very large combined constant makes it suitable for the
removal of trace harmful impurities from large amount media. .

by Polymyxin B Affinity Membrane
Beside histidine, Polymyxin B, which can be classified
a cyclic lipophilic peptides antibiotic, is known to neutralize
the biological activity of endotoxin due to its binding with high
affinity to the toxic lipid A moiety of endotoxin molecules. Comparing
with the commonly used ligand, histidine, the polymyxin B affinity
membrane exhibits a higher efficiency for the endotoxin removal.
